SEN Pottery Workshops at ClayWays
We offer creative, calming pottery sessions for children and adults with special education needs where sensory sensitivities make group creative sessions difficult.
At ClayWays, we offer gentle, welcoming pottery workshops specially designed for individuals with sensory processing differences, and additional needs. Our quiet garden studio in Nantwich provides a peaceful, supportive environment where children and adults can explore the joy of clay in their own time and in their own way.
Unfortunately at this time we are not wheelchair accessible as we are only a small studio, but we are working on it!
These tailored sessions are open to all abilities, and we work closely with parents, carers or support workers to create an experience that’s enjoyable, accessible and truly person-centred.
A Safe and Supportive Space
We understand how overwhelming busy environments and noisy group sessions can be. That’s why our workshops are:
-
Calm and quiet, with minimal background noise
-
One-to-one or very small group sessions
-
Adaptable and flexible, tailored to the needs and comfort levels of each participant
-
Structured yet relaxed, giving time to explore and play with clay without pressure
Children (and adults) who are able to walk up a single step into our studio are warmly welcomed with their parents, friends, family members or carer to support.
What to Expect
In these pottery sessions, participants can enjoy hands-on sensory play while learning simple and satisfying clay techniques such as:
-
Pinching and pressing
-
Rolling and imprinting textures
-
Hand-building small pots or figures
-
Decorating with safe tools and colourful slips (where appropriate)
We go at your pace—there’s no rush, no right or wrong, just the joy of making and creating in a safe, friendly setting.
Designed Around You
Every person is unique, so we work directly with you to shape the workshop around your child’s or adult’s preferences, needs and interests. Whether it’s a one-off creative experience or a regular activity, we’ll help make it something special and stress-free.
If it helps, we can offer visual schedules, allow extra time to settle in, or accommodate specific sensory needs. We’re flexible, understanding and here to help.
