Post: When did I learn to love teaching? (clue: it was in 2025)

After more than 35 years working in marketing, surrounded by some of the most talented and inspiring people you could ever hope to meet, I have recently realised something that I didn’t know about myself.

What really makes me light up in the morning is not a campaign launch, a client presentation, or a perfectly crafted piece of copy; it’s teaching.

There is something magical about helping someone sit down at a pottery wheel for the very first time, watching their concentration turn to delight as the clay begins to take shape under their hands.

I love seeing that moment when it all clicks; when they realise they can actually do it. Watching people evolve from hesitant beginners to confident throwers who proudly lift their pots off the wheel is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable.

Over the years, I have discovered that sharing knowledge is as creative as making pottery itself. Each person learns differently;

Some are naturally gentle with the clay, others are bold and experimental.

My role, I find, is simply to guide, encourage, and celebrate each small success. Sometimes just a small refinement to a position or pressure can make a huge difference.

The best part is the smiles at the end of a session; that sense of genuine pride and joy is infectious.

If you have ever wanted to learn to throw on the pottery wheel, I would love to welcome you to my next six week course. It is an intimate and relaxed class for just two people, so you will get plenty of one to one attention and guidance to help you progress quickly and confidently.

The next course starts on 12 November, running right up to Christmas; the perfect time to make handmade gifts and feel the simple pleasure of creating something beautiful from clay.

Come and discover what makes you smile. You might just fall in love with throwing too.
