If you’ve ever wanted to try pottery, this is the perfect place to start.
Our four-hour Pottery Workshop & Tuition Experience gives you plenty of time to slow down, get creative and really immerse yourself in working with clay. Unlike short taster sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a variety of techniques, develop your confidence and create pieces you’ll be proud to take home.
Whether you come on your own, with friends, family or as a couple, every workshop is designed around you. There are no rigid lesson plans or classroom exercises—just expert guidance, lots of encouragement and the freedom to make pottery that reflects your own ideas and personality.
You’ll be introduced to a range of ceramic techniques, allowing you to discover which styles you enjoy most.
Depending on your interests, your session can include:
If you’ve seen something you’d love to make on Pinterest or Instagram, bring your ideas along. We also have hundreds of books, examples and inspiration in the studio to help spark your creativity.
We keep every workshop to a maximum of just four people, with one or two experienced tutors on hand throughout the session. That means you’ll receive plenty of individual guidance while still enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of creating alongside other friendly, like-minded people.
Many of our visitors arrive as complete beginners and leave amazed at what they’ve created.
This workshop is ideal if you:
Some people simply come for a fun, relaxing creative experience. Others discover a lifelong passion and go on to develop their skills through our regular tuition sessions. Wherever your pottery journey takes you, we’d love to be part of it.
Your workshop includes:
If you’re only visiting us once, we’ll professionally glaze your finished pieces in a beautiful clear glaze before firing them, ready for collection once they’ve completed the drying and firing process.
At Clayways, we believe pottery should be enjoyable, welcoming and accessible to everyone. There are no intimidating classrooms or rushed demonstrations—just expert tuition, plenty of encouragement and a beautiful garden studio where creativity can flourish.
Our aim isn’t simply to teach techniques; it’s to help you discover the satisfaction of creating something completely unique with your own hands.
Whether you leave with a favourite mug, a decorative bowl or simply a huge smile on your face, we’re confident you’ll want to come back.
Spaces are intentionally limited to ensure everyone receives plenty of individual attention, so early booking is recommended.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Clayways studio and helping you discover just how addictive pottery can be 🙂

Most of our pieces can be personalised with names, dates, handwritten messages, or children’s drawings. You can upload your document on the order form or if you have problems with this, once you’ve placed your order, simply email us the details (and any photos of handwriting) to hello@clayways.co.uk using your full name as the subject line. For the clearest results, please send handwriting on plain white paper using a dark pen. If you’d like to chat through your ideas before ordering, we’re always happy to help — just send us a message.
Every piece is handmade to order in our Cheshire pottery studio, so please allow four weeks for us to create your item plus delivery time. We handcraft, personalise, glaze, and kiln-fire each piece individually — that’s what makes it unique. If you need something for a specific date or occasion, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help.
We offer free shipping in the UK on all orders over £30. All items are carefully packaged and shipped via a tracked parcel delivery service for peace of mind. Your finished piece will be securely wrapped to ensure it arrives safely. We have flat rate delivery costs for the rest of the world and these are shared at the point of order.Â
Most of our ceramics are available in a range of soft, natural glaze colours — see the options on each product page for what’s currently available. Many personalised items can also be finished with a hand-painted gold, silver, or copper gilt edge for an extra touch of elegance. If you have a specific colour in mind for a bespoke order, just ask — we’d love to help.
Every piece of pottery at Clayways is individually handmade and glazed, so no two are ever exactly the same. The photographs on our website are examples of previous work, and your finished piece may vary slightly in colour, pattern, and glaze effects. That’s part of the beauty of handmade ceramics — your piece is completely unique.

"Had an absolute blast this morning playing with clay at ClayWays with Tracey. We went as a group of four and after abit of time gathering some inspiration we all got to work. It was such a relaxing time. Chatting, listening to music and creating our pieces. Tracey was so knowledgeable and patient, giving tips and tricks were needed while also letting our creative juices flow and we all managed to make some really lovely pieces. We can't wait go back again to finish them off with paint and glaze. I would fully recommend ClayWays to my friends and family"
