If you’ve always wanted to learn to throw beautiful pots on the wheel, this is the course for you.
Our Six-Week Pottery Throwing Course is designed to take you from complete beginner to confident potter through a series of fun, relaxed and practical sessions. Rather than trying to learn everything in one day, you’ll build your skills progressively, giving your hands and muscle memory time to develop naturally.
With expert tuition, small class sizes and plenty of individual coaching, you’ll soon be amazed at what you can create.
Life is busy, so we’ve made our throwing course as flexible as possible.
Your six sessions don’t have to be taken on the same day each week. Simply book onto any available daytime or evening session that suits your diary and complete the course at a pace that works for you.
Whether you want to come every week or spread your sessions over a longer period, the choice is yours.
Throughout the course you’ll progressively develop the core skills needed to become a confident wheel thrower.
You’ll learn how to:
Every student develops at a different pace, so tuition is always adapted to your individual progress.
We deliberately keep classes small, with a maximum of four students and one or two experienced tutors available throughout every session.
This means you’ll receive plenty of individual guidance while enjoying the friendly atmosphere of learning alongside other enthusiastic potters. Many lifelong friendships have started around our pottery wheels.
Some students join us simply because they’ve always wanted to have a go.
Others are looking for a relaxing hobby, a regular creative escape from busy lives or a new way to unwind after work.
Many go on to develop their own distinctive style, create beautiful gifts for family and friends or even begin selling their pottery at craft fairs, galleries and online. Whatever your ambitions, we’ll help you achieve them.
Your Six-Week Throwing Course includes:
There are no hidden costs—just bring your enthusiasm and we’ll provide everything else.
Learning to throw is one of the most rewarding skills you can develop, but it takes time, patience and good tuition.
At Clayways you’ll learn in a beautiful garden studio where there’s no pressure, no competition and no expectation to be perfect. We’ll celebrate every success, help you overcome the inevitable wobbles and give you the confidence to enjoy every stage of your pottery journey.
By the end of your course you’ll have developed solid foundations, created pieces you’ll be proud of and gained the confidence to continue exploring the endless possibilities of ceramics.
Places are limited to ensure every student receives plenty of individual attention, so early booking is recommended.
Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, a mindful creative outlet or the first step towards becoming a skilled ceramic artist, we’d love to welcome you to the Clayways studio.

Most of our pieces can be personalised with names, dates, handwritten messages, or children’s drawings. You can upload your document on the order form or if you have problems with this, once you’ve placed your order, simply email us the details (and any photos of handwriting) to hello@clayways.co.uk using your full name as the subject line. For the clearest results, please send handwriting on plain white paper using a dark pen. If you’d like to chat through your ideas before ordering, we’re always happy to help — just send us a message.
Every piece is handmade to order in our Cheshire pottery studio, so please allow four weeks for us to create your item plus delivery time. We handcraft, personalise, glaze, and kiln-fire each piece individually — that’s what makes it unique. If you need something for a specific date or occasion, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help.
We offer free shipping in the UK on all orders over £30. All items are carefully packaged and shipped via a tracked parcel delivery service for peace of mind. Your finished piece will be securely wrapped to ensure it arrives safely. We have flat rate delivery costs for the rest of the world and these are shared at the point of order.Â
Most of our ceramics are available in a range of soft, natural glaze colours — see the options on each product page for what’s currently available. Many personalised items can also be finished with a hand-painted gold, silver, or copper gilt edge for an extra touch of elegance. If you have a specific colour in mind for a bespoke order, just ask — we’d love to help.
Every piece of pottery at Clayways is individually handmade and glazed, so no two are ever exactly the same. The photographs on our website are examples of previous work, and your finished piece may vary slightly in colour, pattern, and glaze effects. That’s part of the beauty of handmade ceramics — your piece is completely unique.
Yes — all our functional kitchenware is made from durable high-fired stoneware and finished with food-safe glazes, designed to be enjoyed for years. "Had an absolute blast this morning playing with clay at ClayWays with Tracey. We went as a group of four and after abit of time gathering some inspiration we all got to work. It was such a relaxing time. Chatting, listening to music and creating our pieces. Tracey was so knowledgeable and patient, giving tips and tricks were needed while also letting our creative juices flow and we all managed to make some really lovely pieces. We can't wait go back again to finish them off with paint and glaze. I would fully recommend ClayWays to my friends and family"
