3-Day Pottery Intensive – Expert Wheel Throwing Course

Three-Day Intensive Pottery Course | Master Wheel Throwing & Ceramics

Three inspiring days that could transform your pottery journey

If you’re ready to immerse yourself in pottery, this intensive three-day course offers the fastest way to build confidence, develop practical skills and gain a real understanding of ceramics.

Whether you’re a complete beginner with a passion to learn, a hobby potter looking to accelerate your progress or someone considering a future in ceramics, this course provides three full days of expert tuition in a relaxed, friendly studio environment.

With a maximum of just two students on each course, you’ll receive an exceptional level of individual coaching and leave with skills that would normally take months of weekly classes to develop.

Learn by doing

Over three consecutive days you’ll spend around 24 hours immersed in clay, giving your hands time to develop the muscle memory that is so important in pottery.

You’ll work through every stage of the ceramic process, learning not just how to make pottery, but why each technique matters.

Throughout the course you’ll explore:

  • Wheel throwing from beginner to confident maker
  • Centring, opening and pulling consistent forms
  • Bowls, mugs, cylinders and more advanced shapes
  • Handbuilding techniques including slab, coil and pinch construction
  • Surface decoration and finishing techniques
  • Trimming and refining your work
  • Glazing methods and application
  • Kiln loading, firing schedules and ceramic processes
  • Troubleshooting common pottery problems
  • Developing efficient studio habits and workflows

Every course is adapted to your experience, so whether you’re starting from scratch or already have some pottery knowledge, we’ll help you make the most of every hour.

Personal tuition that makes a difference

Because we limit each course to just two students, you’ll enjoy almost continuous personal tuition from your tutor.

We’ll help you refine:

  • Body posture and ergonomics
  • Hand position and pressure
  • Clay control and consistency
  • Throwing rhythm and confidence
  • Professional techniques that improve results
  • Problem-solving and fault finding

You’ll receive constructive feedback throughout the course, helping you make rapid improvements with every piece you create.

Perfect if you’re serious about learning

This course is ideal if you:

  • Want to learn pottery properly in a short period of time
  • Prefer immersive learning over weekly classes
  • Are considering setting up your own pottery studio
  • Want to build the confidence to make pottery independently
  • Hope to sell your work in the future
  • Need focused tuition with very small class sizes
  • Simply want an unforgettable creative experience

Many students leave with the confidence to continue making at home, join a pottery studio or even begin selling their own ceramics.

Everything is included

Your intensive course includes:

  • Three full days of expert tuition (10.00am–6.00pm)
  • Maximum of two students throughout the course
  • Individual coaching from experienced tutors
  • Wheel throwing and handbuilding tuition
  • Glazing and finishing techniques
  • Kiln management and firing guidance
  • All clay, tools, equipment and studio materials

Every piece of pottery at Clayways is individually handmade and glazed, so no two are ever exactly the same. The photographs on our website are examples of previous work, and your finished piece may vary slightly in colour, pattern, and glaze effects. That’s part of the beauty of handmade ceramics — your piece is completely unique.

"Had an absolute blast this morning playing with clay at ClayWays with Tracey. We went as a group of four and after abit of time gathering some inspiration we all got to work. It was such a relaxing time. Chatting, listening to music and creating our pieces. Tracey was so knowledgeable and patient, giving tips and tricks were needed while also letting our creative juices flow and we all managed to make some really lovely pieces. We can't wait go back again to finish them off with paint and glaze. I would fully recommend ClayWays to my friends and family"
